Yonke Claims KC Amateur

Standing on the 15th Kyle Yonke found himself behind in the championship for the first time. Yonke who began the round 9-under with a 4 shot lead made a triple on hole 2 and then after a double bogey on the 188 yard par 3 No. 14 Doug Albers had taken a one shot lead. However, Yonke hitched up his belt and played the difficult “final four” of Blue Hills in even par to post a 6-under par 210. Meanwhile, Albers bogied 15, 16 and 17 and was not able to birdie the 562 yard par 5 18th to catch Yonke.

In the Senior Open Division Tom Bachelor and Mark Crow tied with a 54 hole total of 217. In the play-off Bachelor hit his approach shot on the 513 yard par 5 No. 1 to within 2 feet of the hole for a birdie and victory. Bachelor is the first two time winner of the Senior Division. Bachelor’s other victory came in 2004 at Staley Farms Golf Club.

David Kirschbaum of Kansas City continued his good play with a final round 77 to post a one shot victory Richard Wills of Overland Park in the Players Division. In the net scoring of the Players Division, Rich Nigh posted a 2-under par 70 in the final round for a 54- hole total of 210 and a two shot victory.

Don Cox of Lake Quivira for the third straight day bettered his previous day by one shot in route to a six shot margin of victory over Fred Rowland of Leawood in the Legends Division. In the net scoring, Leroy Rottinghaus matched his second round 69 to win the net championship.
