Jon Platz of Olathe, fresh off his
2008 Kansas City Masters title, was medalist today with a 3 under
par 69 performance at Oakwood Country Club. The long
hitting Platz hit his stride on the back nine with three birdies and
an eagle on the 498 yard par 5 15th hole to distance himself from
the field. Second place finisher Craig Johnston had a solid 1
under par 71.
In the Senior Open Division Tour
veteran Gary Noble of Independence shot a 2 under par 70 to take top
honors. Noble shot a 1 under par 35 on both nines en route to
his victory while edging out second place finishers Tom Leonard and
Mark Crow by two strokes.
In Players Division gross scoring,
Steve Hammond of Parkville had a 5 over par 77. Hammond's
score was good enough to beat the cluster of Heath Harmon, Greg
Christiansen, Mike Naegele, and Wally Reiter who finished in a four
way tie for 2nd place. In net scoring, Tour newcomer Chris
White of Olathe had an impressive 7 under par 65 to edge out
perennial power Mike Schwieger by five strokes.
Just as he did at Staley Farms and
Paradise Pointe - The Outlaw, Grant Renne of Prairie Village topped
Legends Division gross scoring field with a 5 over par 77.
Second was playing partner Bob Kirkland with an 80. Duke
Duggan of Lee's Summit needed an impressive 4 under par 68 to beat
out the strong field in the Legends Division net scoring which had
four players finish in red digits. A stroke behind Duggan was
David Rush and Dick Sauer with 69's.
The shot of the day came from Ryan
Springer on the 188 yard par 3 16th hole. Springer used a 6
iron for the first hole in one on the StateLine Amateur Tour this
season. For his achievements Springer will be given $100
courtesy of NAPA Filters and Tour member Sam Allegri through the
NAPA Filters Ace Award.
