The 2008 StateLine Amateur Tour
began the season Wednesday at Staley Farms Golf Club. A full field
of 102 players battled high winds and quick greens on the par 72
course.
Kris Casburn of Blue Springs shot
the low score of the day with a 5-over par 77 to win the Open Division
by two strokes over Tour veterans Tim Walla and Steve Groom. Casburn’s
finish moves him into the top 30 on the Bushnell Player Standings
and closer to the revered top 20. The top 20 players on the standings
as of May 15 will be invited to play in the 2008 Watson Challenge
this June at Milburn Golf & Country Club.
Bob Bezek of Baldwin City shot a
79 to win the Senior Open Division by one shot over Tom Bachelor
of Olathe. Finishing third were Billy Cringan of Richmond, Mark
Crow of Overland Park, and Ron Eilers of Lee’s Summit with
81’s.
Steve Hammond of Parkville led all
golfers in the Players Division gross scoring with an 80. His score earned him
a two stroke victory over veteran James Isleib. Finishing third
was tour rookie Greg Christiansen with an 83. Jeff Hanson of Olathe
won the net scoring in the Players Division with a score of 76,
one stroke ahead of runner-up Pat Goeke.
Grant Renne of Prairie Village won
the Legends Division gross scoring with a score of 83. Three strokes behind were
Chuck Atwood, Craig Jorgensen, Jim Lodes and Mike Adams Sr. Rookie
Len Holthaus fired a net 73 to win his first event over runner-up
Craig Jorgensen.
The next Tour stop is April 28 at
Loch Lloyd Country Club. The event is full, but players can sign
up for the waiting list online. There are 42 spots available for
the next open event on Saturday, May 10 at Paradise Point-The
Outlaw.
