Windy Conditions Make Opening Day A Challenge

The 2008 StateLine Amateur Tour began the season Wednesday at Staley Farms Golf Club. A full field of 102 players battled high winds and quick greens on the par 72 course.

Kris Casburn of Blue Springs shot the low score of the day with a 5-over par 77 to win the Open Division by two strokes over Tour veterans Tim Walla and Steve Groom. Casburn’s finish moves him into the top 30 on the Bushnell Player Standings and closer to the revered top 20. The top 20 players on the standings as of May 15 will be invited to play in the 2008 Watson Challenge this June at Milburn Golf & Country Club.

Bob Bezek of Baldwin City shot a 79 to win the Senior Open Division by one shot over Tom Bachelor of Olathe. Finishing third were Billy Cringan of Richmond, Mark Crow of Overland Park, and Ron Eilers of Lee’s Summit with 81’s.

Steve Hammond of Parkville led all golfers in the Players Division gross scoring with an 80. His score earned him a two stroke victory over veteran James Isleib. Finishing third was tour rookie Greg Christiansen with an 83. Jeff Hanson of Olathe won the net scoring in the Players Division with a score of 76, one stroke ahead of runner-up Pat Goeke.

Grant Renne of Prairie Village won the Legends Division gross scoring with a score of 83. Three strokes behind were Chuck Atwood, Craig Jorgensen, Jim Lodes and Mike Adams Sr.  Rookie Len Holthaus fired a net 73 to win his first event over runner-up Craig Jorgensen.
